Mihai Boitor was born in Romania and moved to the US at the age of 10. He is a self-taught inventor and engineer. While working for a company that made dental lasers, Mihai designed the electrical, mechanical, and optical components. In 2009, one of his inventions, the first hand-held dental laser, won the MDEA award for dentistry, subsequently received patents, and is to this day the best-selling hand-held laser in the dental industry. Mihai has also worked in the field of design and assembly of electronic circuits. He has been a math tutor for both homeschool and public school students, and has taught students machining and welding. He worked with a central California homeschool co-op to help the students design and build a go-cart. He and his wife Alexandra take part in an annual homeschool co-op family camp-out in Kings Canyon National Park, during which he teaches camping and survival skills.
